A few years ago, I saw this coin which became known as "the 3D campgate"

the second picture is the reverse of another example

I've only ever seen the first example. Where on earth did you find the second?? I've always thought it was a fake. Is it for sale anywhere?

I saw the second picture a few years ago, but only saw the reverse.

That is almost a holy grail coin for me. Thanks for providing the second image. It implies there must be a few more out there waiting to be found.

Good luck in the quest!

That's a cool coin. You think these are authentic? They sure look so! I'd love to find one buried among some other coins in a late night eBay sale for a few dollars! What the reverse legend there? I can't quite make it out.

Victor

They look authentic enough from the pictures, especially the worn example. The reverse legend is VIRTVS AVGG

Hi,

I took a long time, but I finally found a place to publish the 3D gates:

Les portes de camp en trois dimensions sur le monnayage de Constantin : une recherche laborieuse de perspective (Rome, 320 apr. J.-C.) (2018: Lars Ramskold, Bulletin de la Société Française de Numismatique 73 (7), pp. 317-323).

So far, those three are the only known examples. In time, more will probably come to light.

Thanks for the page with the images! This 3D campgate is still at the top of my Roman coin want list...
