Constantine II campgate from London
« on: February 02, 2016, 11:55:57 AM »
This coin has a dot in the arch which is not recorded in RIC, though the footnotes do mention “dot in arch.” Quite a few other examples have been noted, including ones for Constantine I, Crispus and Constantius II. These would follow after RIC 300.

This is my first official use of the new book The London Mint of Constantius and Constantine by Cloke and Toone. Maybe it should be abbreviated as LMCC? This type is illustrated in it as # 10.02.004 (2)

Constantine II
A.D. 324-5
CONSTANTINVS IVN NOB C; Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust, seen from rear.
PROVIDEN-TIAE CAESS; camp gate with two turrets and star between them, dot in bottom of archway.
in ex. PLON
RIC VII London --

I have been using it quite a bit - it's very comprehensive and well laid out IMHO ... I have been using CT as the abbreviation, twice as efficient as LMCC  :)

I haven't catalogued too many London coins since I got the book, but I always start with RIC. If it is not listed in RIC, then I will cite other references.
