Constantius II VOT X from Thessalonica
« on: July 19, 2015, 01:04:08 PM »
Here is an interesting coin. The obverse legend is not listed with this bust type and it should have had a VOT V reverse, so it was mistakenly paired with a reverse meant for Crispus or Constantine II. This coin is already on Lech's site and below is his info-

http://www.forumancientcoins.com/notinric/7thex-125.html

OBVERSE: FLIVLCONSTANTIVSNOBC [FL IVL CONSTANTIVS NOB C] [8a]; bust r., laur., dr., cuir. [B4].

REVERSE: CAESARVMNOSTRORVM [CAESARVM NOSTRORVM]; laurel wreath enclosing VOT/X. TSΔVI in exergue [THESSALONICA 125-128].

UNLISTED BUST TYPE, HYBRID. RIC lists for this obv. legend only bust type B4 l. (p. 513). However, Bruun in footnote 129 on p. 513 mentions that "CG [Catalogue Gerin] records an obverse 8a (B4), but not to be found in V. [Vienna]". Unlisted obverse with reverse THESSALONICA 125-128 (p. 506).
