Constantine I MARTI CONSERVATORI from Aquileia
« on: May 08, 2015, 10:58:53 AM »
This coin has an unlisted workshop. It is already listed on Lech’s page - http://www.forumancientcoins.com/notinric/6aqu141_s.html

It’s the one that was sold by Gert Boersema. What I find interesting is that this coin was part of a group lot that I bought in the last Vauctions sale. It can’t even be seen in the lot photo (a common tactic for coins that don't photograph so well), despite the unlisted workshop and it is also a harder mint to get for the MARTI types. The coin is a bit rough and perhaps something only a specialist might appreciate, but surely it warrants more than being lumped into a group of LRB’s. Unfortunately, the business side of selling coins dictates three things that affect value- condition, rarity and condition again. Some dealers do not even like to list individual coins below a certain value (sometimes as high as $100); that is why you see so many group lots in auctions. Hopefully this coin will go to a good home.

dictates three things that affect value- condition, rarity and condition again.

To be more precise, "rarity" means nearly always "rarity of emperor", "rarity of type on reverse", sometimes "rarity of especially interesting bust type". "Rarity of officina" or "rarity of particular RIC number" is only for maniacs like us  :)
