Constantine I VIRTVS EXERCIT from Arles
« on: July 13, 2023, 01:33:07 PM »
This coin is a bit rough; but it was a cheap eBay pickup and Arles coins are the rarest from all the mints (London, Lyon, Trier, Arles, Ticinum, Aquileia, Siscia and Thessalonica) that produced VIRTVS EXECRIT coins.

Constantine I
A.D. 320
18mm 3.3g
CONSTA-NTINVS AVG; Helmeted and cuirassed bust right.
VIRTVS E-XERCIT; Standard inscribed VOT/XX with captive seated on ground on either side.
in ex. PARL
RIC VII Arles 202

Nice and scarce!
I agree, Arles ones are the rarest, and usually in medium - low condition.
I spent some years to get a nicer one and it has been not cheap.
