Constantine I CONCORD MILIT with unusual helmet
« on: May 23, 2013, 03:38:19 PM »
Here is coin that just sold for $333.00. What I find interesting is that it is similar to RIC VI London 203, which has a laurel helmet, but on this example it looks more like a diademed helmet, or a fillet on the helmet. I suspect that this was probably just the engraver being creative, but technically, it is unlisted.

Constantine I
A.D. 310- 312
21mm   5.1gm
CONSTANTINVS P AVG, bust left with laureate helmet, cuirassed, spear over right shoulder, shield on left arm.
CONCORD MILIT, Concordia standing left, holding two standards, star to right.
In ex. PLN
cf RIC VI London 203

It looks to be a plain diadem or a plain band around the helmet.
I think it depends by the engraver's stylistic freedom.......but t's a "not in RIC"  of course.
