Constantine I, SOL INVICTO COMITI with consular bust
« on: July 22, 2022, 01:54:39 PM »
I saw this coin for the first time some years ago, and I tough:”wow I will never find another coin like this”. Well I was wrong, because I was so lucky to have the opportunity to find that exact coin again and buy it! I spent a lot, but I immediately forgot the price when this morning it arrived

Here Lech’s description:

OBVERSE
IMPCONSTANTINVSMAXPAVG [IMP CONSTANTINVS MAX P AVG]; bust l., laur., cuir., l. holding pugio (parazonium), r. holding Victory.
REVERSE
SOLIINVIC-TOCOMITI [SOLI INVICTO COMITI]; Sol stg. l., raising r. hand, chlamys across l. shoulder, holding globe. T in left field, F in right field. PLG in exergue.
NOT IN RIC
UNLISTED OBVERSE LEGEND AND BUST TYPE. RIC lists for this issue similar obv. legend (1a) but a little bit shorter: without P after MAX (p. 122). Bust type is not attested for entire RIC VII. Could be regarded as a rare variety of busts I1 and I2. For varieties of these busts see CORRIGENDA, VOL. VII, p. 89-90. Coin should be listed before LYONS 15.

Congrats...that is a very nice looking example. Nice coins are usually worth the price.

I slightly corrected Nicola's picture. The coin is really beautiful

It is is listed in Bastien supplément II N° 549, a and b. All the three specimen share the same obverse die. So probably only one die has been prepared.
