Constantine I BEATA TRANQVILLITAS from Trier...ex-Alten
« on: July 16, 2021, 08:45:20 AM »

I just got this BEATA from Trier. It is nothing special; but is ex Dieter Alten of Alten and Zschucke who wrote Die romische Munzserie Beata Tranquillitas. I noticed something that I expect interested Dieter also-- there is a dot after the XX on the altar.

Constantine I
A.D. 322
19x20mm     3.5g
CONSTANTINVS AVG; helmeted and cuirassed bust right.
BEATA TRAN-QVILLITAS; globe set on altar inscribed VO/TIS/ XX•; above, three stars
In ex. PTR•
RIC VII Trier 341

Interesting - the dot looks deliberate since the XX is shifted over.

Yes, it does look like it was deliberate. Too bad he purchased it in 2009, or it surely would have been in the BEATA book; which was published in 2004.
