Constantine I ADVENTVS from London
« on: January 26, 2013, 03:04:30 PM »
This one just sold for 152 euros, it is unlisted for the obverse legend which is IMP CONSTANTINVS AV. The footnote in RIC (RIC VII London 1 pg. 97) mentions this legend being noticed by others and says "last G possibly worn out." London, however, does not use legends like this, but does us the shorter AG. I believe that what happened on this coin is that the engraver ran out of room and the G is actually on the cuirass. A clearer picture would help, but I think I can see it. This legend is definitely not an official legend though, but rather an error; but still interesting.

I bid on it too, and i agree: the G in on the cuirass.
By the way, a nice catch.
