The new RIC V.5 is a chore to use. Variations that may have been better suited as footnotes are given a RIC number.

This Maximianus coin used to be London 34; but now it has different numbers according to the sceptre.

a vertical scepter is RIC V.5 London 3607

and a transverse sceptre is RIC V.5 London 3610

and the Allectus galley type has over a dozen different entries according to mast or no mast, waves or no waves, how many rowers etc.

RIC V.5 London 276 (maybe)
