Constantine I VLPP from London (not) holding globe

"C&T acknowledge in their footnote that "the left hand and globe are sketchy" on the obverse die of the Berlin coin. Upon inspection of this coin, which shares dies with the Berlin coin cited by both C&T and RML, there does not appear to be a globe in the left hand of Constantine. Additionally, the "quasi-consular" bust does indeed appear to have pteryges as noted in RML's footnote 46. Thus, the bust has been cataloged here as cuirassed despite having trabeate features."


However, though faint, you can see the globe, and thumb and forefinger of his hand holding the globe.


Interestingly, I won this coin from CNG last year, and though the globe is fainter; they had no issue describing it as a globe.

Yes, the outline of the globe is faint on these, but the (equinoctial) cross on the globe is very clear. I suppose if you don't know what you are looking at the cross could be misinterpreted as a clothing detail.
