I like the depiction of Mars on Ticinum coins, though he looks fairly soft-- I think I could take him in a fight  ;D

Maximinus II
A.D. 305- 306
MAXIMINVS NOB CAESAR; laureate head right.
VIRTVS AVGG ET CAESS NN; Mars helmeted and wearing belt and not much else! Advancing right holding spear and trophy over left; • in left field.
In ex. ST
RIC VI Ticinum 58b

Yeah, definitely looks a bit out of shape!  :)

I've never paid much attention before, but what exactly is he wearing here, and also what's going on in his groin area ?!

Victor

I think he is wearing a belt for weapons, with either scabbards or perhaps a cloak tucked in...or maybe merely just a cloak wrapped around his waist, like a modern version of a sweater wrapped around the waist.. I think they tried to depict the groin anatomically correct and the dots are supposed to be hair.
