Maximianus GENIO IMPERATORIS from Antioch

An unusual issue because Maximianus (who is supposed to be in retirement with Diocletian) appears as Augustus along with Galerius and Licinius I. At the Council of Carnuntum in A.D. 308, Maximianus was forced to abdicate (for a second time) by Diocletian and Galerius; while Licinius was promoted to Augustus and Constantine and Maximinus II became Caesars. Maximinus II, who was antagonistic towards Galerius and Licinius, “may have been momentarily willing to demonstrate his hostility by including the name of the man who might still play an anti-Galerian part in the West.” RIC VI pg. 607
