So, this nasty piece of crap was my first purchase of 2022, coming in at a whopping $12.93. This was the seller's pic.

Galerius Hercvli Victori Antioch 310-311 (unlisted type for G, no crescent, B) UK metal detector find 23x21mm $12.93 - eBay 1-2022.jpg

There wasn't much to lose, so I delivered the coup de grace with a dose of lemon juice.

I'm actually quite pleased with the coin.

It's from Maximinus II's Antioch coinage reform of c.310-311 when he introduced his new Iovi, Hercvli etc types. This is from the "no crescent" issue that preceded the crescent one, which RIC only mentions in the footnotes to RIC VI Antioch 152-155.

RIC only lists the HERCVLI type for Daia (RIC 152), but here we have it for Galerius. I've seen a couple of others also - one ex. Jesus Vico, ex. Dattari, on Not In RIC, and another in the University of Glasgow Hunterian collection.

It definitely looks better now. I would use some Dellar's Darkener (sulfur in vaseline) or Jax to accelerate the toning.
