I was just outbid on this nice Theodora mule. Unusually nice for Theodora nevermind being a mule.

The Pax reverse type belongs to Helena rather than Theodora. FIrst time I've noticed one of these Theodora/Helena mules.

What adds interest is that Helvetica's RIC lists has one of these listed from the Coleshill hoard (first I've heard of it), from this same issue and officina, so I wonder if it's a die match ?

The coin you posted is RIC 64, the obverse is FL IVL HELENAE AVG

below is an example for Theodora

The Coleshill hoard is in The Chalfont Hoard and other Roman Coin Hoards (Coin Hoards from Roman Britian IX), but they don't illustrate the Theodora (#246)

Wow, that was sloppy of me!  ::)

I basically going by the bust, and didn't bother to closely inspect the legend.

Oddly enough that Theodora you posted is what I expect Helena to look like from Trier, and here is an actual Theodora that looks like the Helena I wrongly ID'd.

Next time I'll read the legend. :P

I've missed the forest because of the trees on more than one occasion...and surely will again in the future.
