I initially thought that these two coins were grossly overpriced; until I saw the "no reserve"...what a bargain.  ::)

General Discussion / Memorial Day
Last post by Victor - May 26, 2025, 01:09:39 PM
On this Memorial Day, I remember my grandfather, James "Pete" Clark who served during W.W. II in the USAF in the 758th Bomb Squadron, 459th Bomb Group (they flew B-24 Liberators). He was killed over Austria fighting the Nazis on 26 June 1944. He was only 21 years old.

I recently realized that I did not currently have an example of this coin and have corrected this oversight.  :D

IMP CONSTANTINVS P F AVG; laureate and cuirassed bust right.

I just got this nice example. Crispus is one of the great "what ifs" of history. What if he had not been executed and eventually became Emperor; who knows what might have been.

Crispus
A.D. 325-326
19mm   3.5g
FL IVL CRISPVS NOB C; Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust left.
PROVIDEN-TIAE CAESS; campgate with two turrets and star between them.

Quote from: Joshmaggosh on May 21, 2025, 07:52:19 PMThat's a nice coin! I have a similar one for Constantine that's a little rougher and bent.

Nice coin, but that's actually a different issue - captive from a different war!

It's RIC VII Aquileia 1, dating to 316-317 AD after Constantine's first civil war with Licinius. The simplest way to tell the difference is by the "IMP" legend, but also bust style.
