Title: Help distinguishing "smk gamma" vs "smh gamma" campgate.
Post by: tjaart on April 10, 2015, 06:35:46 PM
Hi all,

I recently purchased this campgate believing the mintmark was smk gamma but on closer inspection I am unsure as to whether it is "k" or "h".

Constantine II
Laureate, draped, cuirassed bust
CONSTANTINVS IVN NOB C
Campgate, 5 layers, 2 turrets, star above, no doors, PROVIDEN-TIAE CAESS
SM? gamma

If it is a "k" it will be unlisted as all the other campgates fulfilling these requirements have the bust left.

The photos are the dealers photos. I can take new ones if needed.

Any help would be appreciated!

I believe it is from Heraclea. There is a pretty clear horizontal crossbar and not enough angle on the right side for a K

Thanks Victor, I had the same impression. Just wanted to double check.
