Title: Misplaced mintmark on campgate
Post by: tjaart on March 22, 2015, 08:51:05 AM
Hi all,

I recently purchased this campgate purely for the fact that it looks like the mintmark is part of the reverse legend. It is also strange that the dots in the top row of the campgate are not in arches. Anyway, just thought I would share this interesting die variation. I assume this is an official issue with the engraver just having a lapse in concentration?

It certainly looks official and seems to be, as you say, a case of the engraver not paying close enough attention. A neat example for your campgate collection.
