I just won this coin; which I bid on mainly because it was one I had sold in 2014. I won it for $200; which was the same price that I sold it for 9 years ago.
Constantine I
A.D. 317
17x21mm 2.9gm
IMP CONSTANTINVS P F AVG; laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right.
CLARITAS REIPVBLICAE; Sol radiate, advancing left, raising right hand, whip in left, chlamys flying; A in left field.
In ex. R Q
RIC VII Rome 80
Now i know who I was bidding against... Great coin... If you ever decide to sell it again.... ;)
I plan on keeping it for a while this time...I have already got a spot for it in my trays.
A nice looking coin! A question though... were these only minted for Constantine's sons while the SOLI reverses were for Constantine, is that what makes it special? Thanks!
They are rarer for Constantine I; though not impossible to find from Rome. They are harder to find from London, which used the standard depiction of Sol with a globe.
