I sold this anepigraphic in 2009.
Here is what it looks like after "professional cleaning"
I'm not sure what I think
Well, the market has spoken ...
I think this one was improved by cleaning, especially the reverse which exposed the silvering which seems to account for the sale price.
There were a number of other interesting +/- $2000 before/after cleaning results in this auction which seemed directionally in line with the aesthetic results of the cleaning.
The Constantinople Helena fraction (ex. Jose Herraro Mayo) was roughly + $2000.
The Constantinople SPQR (ex. Naumann) was - $2000.
The Restitvtor Vrbis Svae (ex. Aeternitas) was - $2000.
So I guess it all balances out in the end - at least for this group.
A bunch of interesting prices in this auction for sure !
Still waiting for my Leu invoice.
At least the cleaning was carefully done (don't see any heavy-handed mechanical cleaning scratches) and it looks fine but if given the choice, I think I prefer the before coin.
