Title: Diocletian GENIO POPVLI ROMANI
Post by: Victor on January 03, 2018, 11:10:45 AM
Here is a lot with an unlisted Diocletian that just sold for $326.42. I haven't looked in any other reference than RIC.

I assume it is Bastien #135 (RIC.83)
I was following the sale, the day before it was 11.5, I was thinking it could be a good deal...But I forgot to bid... and when I saw the price I had no regret. ::)

You must be right about the RIC number...I could not make up my mind if there was a shield and looked for only spear forward. Bastien even illustrates an example that looks a lot like this one. I was a little surprised that the price got so high, but you never know what will happen on eBay.

That's a steep increase. Was it a bidding war or did one person just want it badly and bid high?

It seemed like a bidding war. There were 29 bids and several people bid multiple times.

It seems that a few people really want it : http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&item=263409897752&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2565
In the other hand, even if it is not unpublished, it stills a very rare coin known by only two specimens in Bastien's catalogue

Edit: Victor answered while I was writing.
