Title: Folles help!
Post by: stupot on December 27, 2018, 07:39:17 AM
Struggling with id of Maximian, Galerius & Maximinus II coins, need help and pointers with this please. Here's a group of coins bought recently but with no ID. I do like these later coins, all very interesting to beginners.

Your coins from left to right are--

Galerius
A.D. 302- 303
MAXIMIANVS NOBIL C; laureate and cuirassed bust right.
GENIO POPV-LI ROMANI; Genius standing left, modius/tower on head, naked but for chlamys over left shoulder, right holding patera, left cornucopiae; S-F across fields.
In ex. II TR
RIC VI Trier 508b/ 530b

This coin is either RIC VI Trier 508b or 530b, depending on whether Genius is wearing a tower or a modius. The distinction is often not clear and seems rather arbitrary.
