Title: ancient and modern lions, griffins etc.
Post by: livingwater on July 26, 2017, 07:41:08 AM
I love ancient coins.  I seldom buy moderns.  But once in a while I see a new issue that catches my eye.  Such are Britain's royal mint new coins showing the queen's ten heraldry beasts.  Three of the ten types have been released, lion, griffin, dragon.  The obverse is the bust of the queen. They are made in silver and gold.  I think the cool ones are the ten oz. silver.  They are an amazing 89mm wide, the first big silver coin Britain has made.  Only the lion 10oz is available, others coming later.  I bought mine for around $200.

These coins remind me of animals on ancient coins.  Below is a pic of the silver 10oz and 2oz queen's lion side by side.  I took the liberty of taking a few LRBs from Vcoins that show lion and griffin.  The Maximianus is your's Victor.  Last are pics of the queen's dragon and griffin.
