Title: Unlisted Constantius II Campgate?
Post by: tjaart on September 19, 2014, 09:09:59 AM
Hi all,

I recently acquired this campgate for a bargain price. Using Helvetica's spreadsheets it appears that this is an unlisted campgate. As far as I can see it can be described as follows:

Constantius II
FL IVL CONSTANTIVS NOB C, Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust left.
Campgate with 6 layers, 2 turrets, a star above and no doors. S in left field in and F in right field, PROVIDEN-TIAE CAESS.
Arles mint, ARLQ
About 3.5g and 20mm (estimate)

I would appreciate any feedback on this coin.

Thanks!

Your coin is RIC VII Arles 312 rated as C1. Dane has an error in her spreadsheets-- per RIC VII this coin is "as no. 286" and 286 is a gateway with two turrets.

Thanks Victor. I haven't managed to get myself RIC VII yet.

I appreciate the clarification and explanation.
