Title: Constantine II BEATA from Trier
Post by: Victor on November 24, 2017, 05:38:28 PM
This coin is not in RIC for this bust type. The exergue looks like •PTR; but might be •PTR• … neither are in RIC.  If it is •PTR•, it is in Alten and Zschucke as 112; but if it is •PTR, it is not listed there either.

Constantine II
A.D. 321- 323
20mm   2.8gm
CONSTANTINVS IVN NOB C; laureate and cuirassed bust right, holding victory on globe in left hand and spear over right shoulder.
BEATA TRANQVILLITAS; globe set on altar inscribed VO/TIS/XX; above, three stars.
In ex. •PTR
RIC VII Trier ---

Nice coin but once again, I believe that Lanz has offered a smoothed/tooled coin, at least both fields and Constantine II right arm (I hope to be wrong due to the picture).
So, the mintmark may still undetermined.
We will know more once you'll get it in hand.

Yes, Lanz has a habit of offering tooled coins. Hopefully in hand it looks good.

This coin was earlier offered on Roma Numismatics auction in February. I believe that mintmark is indeed •PTR•.
