Title: Constantine I VLPP from Arles without a helmet
Post by: Victor on October 09, 2012, 12:08:15 PM
All of the VLPP coins of Constantine depict him helmeted (or wearing a Pannonian cap) except for this coin from Arles. This bust type is not listed in RIC for this series, but there was an example in the Bikic- Do hoard, which is illustrated on page 43 of Sirmium VIII. Études de Numismatique Danubienne: Trésors, Lingots, Imitations. Monnaies de Fouilles IV au XII Siècle.  It is also referenced in Ferrando's  L’atelier monétaire d’Arles. De Constantin le Grand à Romulus Augustule, 313-476, as number 428.
