Title: Nummus of Galerius as Caesar, mint?
Post by: six2ten on April 02, 2016, 11:28:49 PM
The attached has me stumped. I am pretty sure there is nothing in the exergue, but the apparent M in the left field (or indeed any letters for the untied folles/nummi) is unknown as far as I can?

The M could perhaps be a mis-formed A, and thus be Lyon or Trier, but missing the exergue leader mintmark...

Any help appreciated !

I suspect that you probably right about the mis-formed A. Maybe it is Lyons 39 or 54 and the mintmark is missing because of a weak strike, evidenced by the feet of Genius which start disappearing towards the bottom.

Below is a scan from Bastien with some of these with A and B in left field.

If you squint while looking at 59b and 59c, you can kind of see an M
