Title: Alexandria radiate fraction
Post by: Severus on September 23, 2020, 01:38:31 PM
Saw this lot from Naville's currect auction and wondering what people think. This is a CONCORDIA MILITVM radiate fraction, most of the eastern mints struck a version of this type c. 295/296. This one is attributed to Alexandria even though it has no mintmark at all:

In addition to the lack of mintmark, the simple laureate bust type with no drapery or cuirass is unusual, plus the portrait style IMO looks very much like a western mint. On the other hand, it is ex-Dattari, and if HE thought is was from Alexandria, that obviously counts for something.
