Title: unofficial Constantine II in a slab
Post by: Victor on June 20, 2021, 10:08:35 AM

Here's an unofficial coin of Constantine II that looks good enough that NGC slabbed it...though it is definitely not official. It has several issues, some obvious, others more subtle.

That's pretty sad - I assume they would have labelled it as unofficial if they realized.

The "x" on banner is a massive giveaway.

PTR is also pretty blatant.

I have several other unofficial issues that were slabbed and they include something like "barbarous" on the label, like the campgate and overstrike below.

True, although for some reason that didn't jump out to me as much as the style and "x" (maybe because I collect Christian symbols).

Helvetica's spreadsheet lists another ancient imitiation with PTR mintmark from the Bishops Canning hoard.
