I just got Bastien books on Lyon mint..  i have also to learn some french :D

Bastien is a great resource. You don't actually have to know a lot of French though, as the bust types are illustrated along with examples of each coin. Sometimes I flip through the pictures of coins when I am looking for a specific coin. The text is easy enough though; I think you will find it fairly easy to use.
