Title: Mule
Post by: stupot on November 28, 2018, 02:23:13 PM
Here's a lovely coin that I have not seen before. VRBS ROMA obverse with a VOT XX MVLT XXXX reverse. Picked up in a group of similar period coins. All were English finds that I do know. Interested to see your comments. Many thanks.

This isn't a mule, it's a regular issue, though fairly rare. During this period, they also struck VRBS and Constantinopolis obverses with GLORIA EXERCITVS reverses. Though your mintmark is not clear, it is probably from Heraclea (something like SMHA or •SMHA) -- see RIC VIII Heraclea 49/ 56. struck A.D. 347- 348

Thanks for your help. I'll keep delving into my collection  for something odd.
