Volusian was the son of Trebonianus Gallus. After the death of Trajan Decius in A.D. 251, Gallus became emperor. He even adopted the son of Decius, Hostilian, and made him co-Emperor. Hostilian, however, soon died of plague, and Volusian, who was already caesar, became co-Augustus.
He and his father were killed by mutinous troops in A.D. 253.
This coin from Volusian has a typo in the reverse legend -- AVGVG
