Title: Constantine Gloria Exercitvs from Arles
Post by: Victor on September 20, 2012, 11:02:01 AM
This coin is similar to RIC 370, but it has a dot below the wreath on the reverse. Do not be confused with the centering dot…it is the dot below that.  RIC does not list this, but does have a type with a dot in the wreath (RIC 375). Maybe it is just an engravers error or a remnant from the manufacturing process, like the centering dot; but whatever the case, still worth noting.

Constantine I
A.D. 330- 335
CONSTANTI-NVS MAX AVG rosette-diadem, draped, cuirassed
GLOR-IA EXERC-ITVS [The glory of the army] Two soldiers helmeted, stg. facing one another, reversed spear in outer hands, inner hands on shields resting on the ground; between them two standards.
in ex. (?)CONST
wreath at top between standards with dot below (under the centering dot)
