Other coins / ancient and modern lions, griffins etc.

I love ancient coins.  I seldom buy moderns.  But once in a while I see a new issue that catches my eye.  Such are Britain's royal mint new coins showing the queen's ten heraldry beasts.  Three of the ten types have been released, lion, griffin, dragon.  The obverse is the bust of the queen. They are made in silver and gold.  I think the cool ones are the ten oz. silver.  They are an amazing 89mm wide, the first big silver coin Britain has made.  Only the lion 10oz is available, others coming later.  I bought mine for around $200.

These coins remind me of animals on ancient coins.  Below is a pic of the silver 10oz and 2oz queen's lion side by side.  I took the liberty of taking a few LRBs from Vcoins that show lion and griffin.  The Maximianus is your's Victor.  Last are pics of the queen's dragon and griffin.

Unlisted / Re: Constantine I SOL from Rome...Sol clothed

The reverse from another workshop (an probably from another die cutter) makes this whole thing more interesting. Three different dies. It couldn't happen accidentally. I also don't believe in modest Christian engraver. Probably instructions were wrong or at least unclear.

Usually there is a R (meaning Reproduction) engraved on both face.

Yes, I saw his Facebook page and reference to Ferrando. I figured the engraver probably originally made these for re-enactors.

I think that somewhere on the replica, it should have "copie" because (sometime, somehwere, somehow) there is going to be someone who will think it is genuine.

This engraver, C. Rossi, is the one who also works for Ph. Ferrando. Note that the coins are made of stain or lead.

these coins are being sold as reproductions and should not fool many people, but give them a fake patina and I could see more people thinking that they were genuine.
