Title: Constans FEL TEMP galley with figurehead from Antioch
Post by: Victor on September 29, 2017, 01:04:29 PM
RIC only lists this type with a pearl diadem, while this one has a rosette diadem.

The coin is nicely engraved (especially the reverse) and the prow looks like it has a figurehead on it...maybe a wolf or a draco.

Also note a design element that pops up on LRB's-- the wavy line with dots.

That design element reminds me of the campgate you won the other day. Very interesting.

I just found this campgate as well. Instead of the pattern in top, as the coin I mentioned previously http://www.lateromanbronzecoinforum.com/index.php/topic,1315.msg3709.html (http://www.lateromanbronzecoinforum.com/index.php/topic,1315.msg3709.html), it has the same decoration in the base in this example from Wildwinds:

Constantius II, AE3, 328-329, Nicomedia,
FL IVL CONSTANTIVS NOB C, laureate, draped, cuirassed bust left.
PROVIDEN-TIAE CAES dot, Campgate with six layers, two turrets, no doors, star above,
decorated base.
Mintmark SMNS.
RIC VII Nicomedia 158; Sear 17650.
