Title: new lamp for photography
Post by: Victor on April 26, 2019, 12:58:47 PM

I just got a new light for photographing coins and like it so far. It is dimmable which is really nice and the light color is adjustable (6000K cool white to 3000K warm white, & in between). The 9 Watt integrated lights produce 650 lumens.

Sorry about that, I forgot to include the info. It's a Brightech LightView PRO LED with 2.25x Magnifying Glass

Interesting... So you are taking the pictures through the lens or from a side? I am just trying to imagine the setup.

I usually have the light at the top of the coin, but move it around according to  how the coin is reflecting light and which way the bust faces. Like in the picture below, except I don't use the light cube anymore.

I changed my lighting again. I have struggled with lighting for years because not every lighting situation works for every coin. I am trying to get a set-up that works great for some coins; but a least adequately for every coin. I am now using Smith Victor LED lights that attach to the base of the copy stand. They are fully adjustable.

The coin below is the first I have photographed with the new lights. It is evenly lit; but I am not completely happy with the results yet...still a lot of experimenting to do.
