Title: My Favorite Marcian
Post by: Victor on February 13, 2016, 02:15:45 PM
The title of this post is a play on words, which you will probably only get if you are from the US and middle aged + (My Favorite Martian was a TV show in the 60's-- http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0056775/)

Anyway, back to this Marcian that I just cleaned; which I think turned out pretty nicely. Before and after pictures below.

Marcian
A.D. 450- 457
11mm   1.1gm
DN MARCIANVS P F AVG; pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust right.
REV: monogram 3 within wreath with ✶ at top
In ex. NICO
RIC X Nicomedia 557

Great job, Victor! Which tools did you use to get rid of the green malachite(?) encrustations?

I soaked it in ammonia for about 30 minutes and then scrubbed it with a denture brush (they have firmer bristles than a normal toothbrush).
