Title: Theodahad VICTORIA PINCIPVM from Rome
Post by: Victor on April 30, 2019, 01:01:11 PM
If you like Ostrogothic coinage, here is a beauty that just sold for EUR 3010. It has a very clear depiction of a cross on the armor. A very desirable coin if you collect the series, the "holy grail" of the series.

Ostrogoths.
Theodahad.
AE 40 Nummi.
25mm // 10,01g.
Rome, AD 534-536.
D N THEODAHADVS REX, mantled bust right, wearing ornate 'Spangenhelm', large pectoral cross and 'Ostrogothic' garment.
VICTORIA PINCIPVN, Victory standing right on prow of galley, holding wreath and palm; S-C across fields.
Hahn, MIB 81; Metlich 89 b (C 1/L 16).
EF.

Why do I see PRINCIPVM on the reverse?

Yes, it is PRINCIPVM. I copy and pasted the sellers description and did not notice the spelling.

This is my coin. I bought it for EUR 1160,- in 2019.
