unusual Constantius II FTR with two captives
« on: July 19, 2016, 10:13:03 AM »
The first coin pictured below has an unusual depiction of the two captives. They are usually shown moving to the left, often with a leg bent, but on this example  they are leaning, to the point of defying gravity. The second example is a more typical representation.

Constantius II
A.D. 348- 351
DN CONSTANTIVS PF AVG- pearl-diadem, draped, cuirassed, globe in hand.
FEL TEMP REPARATIO- Emperor bare headed and in military dress standing, holding standard with chi-rho on banner in his right hand, resting left hand on shield. Two bound captives kneeling to the left before him.
