Constantine I VLPP from Siscia brockage
« on: July 12, 2016, 09:24:10 AM »
Here is a brockage of Constantine I, which can be identified as the obverse of a VLPP from Siscia. From style alone it must be a VLPP obverse, as this mint had a distinctive portrait, plus the legend coupled with the bust type leaves no doubt. Judging from the larger field area it was probably struck circa A.D. 319; initially VLPP were struck from 318- 19 on a smaller flan, so the obverse tended to look a bit crowded. Below the brockage is RIC 73 for comparison.
