« on: October 01, 2015, 01:08:46 PM »
May I ask about this coin (I do not know what period it belongs to, it is maybe not a Late roman bronze...)

Thank you for the aid!

It's a posthumous issue of Claudius II. He died in A.D. 270 and was deified and these coins were issued by his brother Quintillus (Sept- Nov A.D. 270) to honor his memory.

 DIVO CLAVDIO, radiate head right
 CONSECRATIO, altar

Thank you for your answer Victor!

How did you know it was Claudius II?

The coin is between 18 and 15 mm and  weighs 2,72 grams. Doesn't it look like a little 'barbaric' in appearance (the altar looks pretty schematic for example)

Cheers!!

This type (radiate bearded head with altar reverse) is usually always Claudius II

These were often imitated, but, because of the state of preservation, I couldn't say for sure if yours is official or not, but the bust looks pretty good, so I would say official. There are also a wide variety of altar designs on these.
