Constantia reproduction
« on: January 08, 2014, 02:41:25 PM »
This coin of Constantine's sister is being offered as a reproduction. It shouldn't fool anyone, but eventually someone will probably buy it thinking it is genuine.

Constantia
∆ Follis
21mm   4.7gm
A.D. 326-327
CONSTANTIA N F (nobilissima femina) head bare, but intertwined plaits encircling head, plaits decorated with hair pins, mantled with necklace (A7 bust).
SOROR CONSTANTINI AVG reverse legend enclosing wreath, wherein PIET/AS PVB/LICA
RIC VII Constantinople 15

the reverse legend translates as "the public piety of the sister of Constantine".

the second picture is a real example.

I didn't see one of those on VCoins. I assume coins of Constantia are pretty scarce?

Yes, they are very scarce. I think that there are less than half a dozen known.
