starting with a cast fake

I just saw this example. This fake has been around for a few years, but this one has a fake patina that makes it look even more convincing.

It is the first picture below, the second picture (3rd coin in this post) is the same die, without a fake patina.


I would like to add that the seller closed the listing as soon as I informed him about the coin.

he has other fakes also...and, surprise, he lives in Bulgaria.

it's not the first time he has sold this fake. He thinks it is ok because he includes one sentence- "Cette pièce de monnaie est un exactement copie."

Thanks Victor. I would like to think that I've seen enough LRBs to spot a fake, but I confess I might've been taken in by one or two of these. I guess the moral of the story is that you really must know your seller, especially for coins that are in the upper end of your budget.

You should let whoever is selling it know it is a fake. They may not believe you, but this one is a known fake, so they can check it out.
