latest CNG auction win
« on: November 14, 2018, 02:00:06 PM »
I just won this lot of 56 coins in the latest CNG auction. Hopefully it will be a good lot and from what I can see there is a lot of variety.

From the picture, you can make out 3 Helena SECVRITAS types from Antioch...well there were 8 more underneath.  >:(

I understand your frustration. I never understand why so few dealers put in the small amount of effort required to photograph both sides of a nicely laid out lot. Whenever I see group lots nicely laid out with sides, I always look. These lots with just a jumble of coins just never entices me, but that may be because I am not a dealer.

I hope there were some other gems in there?

They take pictures like that because they would get less bids if every knew that there were 11 Helenas from Antioch in the lot. These lots are always a gamble...this time I did not do so well. There were a few nice coins, but definitely not worth what I paid. Most will probably go to eBay.

I won this lot of 26 LRB's from the latest CNG auction. The picture only showed 8 coins though, so it is a gamble. I know better, but, like many, I enjoy the gamble...but really only if it pays off! My max bid was $10 per coin and that is what I won the lot for (not counting fees). Hopefully there will be something interesting not pictured; or it is another bust from CNG. From the coins pictured, two are not worth anything at all, so it is a long shot.

There was nothing of interest in this lot...probably why they did not show the other coins. 14 of them were miserable little SALVS REIPVBLICAE AE4's. You take your chances with these types of lots, but I expected better of CNG.

I just won this group of 60 LRB's from the latest CNG auction. They look promising, but I am always leary of these "pile of coins" pictures, as all too often, the best coins are on top and the worst coins seem to make it to the bottom.  ::)
