Nevr- dull...nevr use it

Nevr-dull...nevr use it  :'(

Sometimes I give coins away...mainly to new collectors.

On another forum someone said they did not have any ancients yet, so I mailed him a Constantine I, first coin pictured below. It had a nice light brown patina, with a little silvering left.

When he got the coin, he thought it was too dark, so he used Nevr-dull on it. This product is a mildly abrasive cotton wadding used to polish metal. It is for shiny metal that you want to keep shiny, not for use on metals with a patina that you want to keep intact.

the second picture below is the coin now, I can't tell exactly how much of the patina was removed due to the lighting; but I can imagine. The coin is not ruined, but it was really nice before.

third picture is a can of nevr-dull. It is a great product when used correctly...I used a lot of it in the Navy for shining up brightwork (brass) and still have a can in my garage; which I use for chrome on my truck.

So once again-- Nevr-dull...nevr use it on ancient coins...at least if you want the patina.
