Constantine I campgate from Rome
« on: April 09, 2017, 03:29:14 PM »
The first picture below is a coin not listed in RIC. It looks just like Rome 165, except for the open doors. RIC 190 has open doors, but four turrets instead of three.

The coin, though, which just sold on eBay for EUR 41.50, is a cast fake. It is 18mm and 2.9gm. It has been discussed on another forum and is also the second picture below. The third picture is another example, which must be fake also.

The last picture is an example that I had and sold. I hope it was the host for the other fakes, and not a really good cast. Unfortunately, I did not know about the fakes when I had it, but in hand my example seemed fine and it looks sharper than the other two examples.

The last picture is a composite, with the original coin first, second is a decent cast copy (1st gen) and last is a poor cast copy, maybe a result of the mold degrading.
