Constantinople - Victory - Trier Cf. RIC. 543
« on: March 12, 2017, 02:36:44 PM »
Hi all,

Here is a commemorative nummus from trier (2,19 g - 17/19 mm) - Cf. RIC. 543 (without dot)
What do you think about the mark in left field - a dot ?

Thanks for comment  ;)

it looks like a dot, but it is hard to be sure of the significance. Is it a control mark or just another example of an extra dot, lots of LRB's have stray dots showing up. It is definitely worth noting though.

Thanks Victor. OK for "another extra dot" but it looks really like a "real" one  ;)

I saw this coin today and thought of this topic. This VRBS ROMA has a small dot to the right of the star on reverse and though it is not in the right place to ever be considered a control mark, it is a good example of a dot appearing where one would not expect.
