Maximianus IOVI AVGG from Lyons
« on: March 03, 2017, 10:08:30 AM »
This Maximianus from Lyons looks like RIC V Lyons 386, except that the listing in RIC is described as having an eagle at left by Jupiter. This example clearly does not have an eagle and I could not find any examples of this coin with eagle. In fact I found some described as 386; but with no eagle. This is an error in RIC. Bastien has a few examples illustrated (even ones listed as RIC 386) and they also do not have eagles.

It is a nice coin with a lot of silvering, though my photography does not show the silvering well.
