Constantius II Fel Temp with one captive
« on: November 02, 2012, 03:39:55 PM »
This Fel Temp is special because it only has one captive, versus the normal two. This type was only issued at Thessalonica. It is also an unlisted officina.

Constantius II
A.D. 350- 355
23mm    4.7gm
DN CONSTANTIVS PF AVG, pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust.
FEL TEMP REPARATIO, Emperor in military dress advancing left, holding Victory on globe and a standard with a Chi-Rho on the banner; with his right foot he spurns a seated captive.
In ex. star TS gamma dot, in left field gamma, in right field star.
RIC VIII Thessalonica 178

Mine is a different workshop (a listed one: A).  These were issued following Constantius' relief of Vetranio.  The one to watch for is the Gallus version reported in RIC but I don't have it.
